Dr. Hannibal Lecter. Brilliant. Cunning. Psychotic. In his mind lies the clue to a ruthless killer. - Clarice Starling, FBI. Brilliant. Vulnerable. Alone. She must trust him to stop the killer.

Anthony Hopkins and Jodie Foster deliver knock-out Oscar-winning performances in this "shockingly powerful thriller" (New York Magazine). "Stunning" (Los Angeles Times) and "spellbinding" (The Hollywood Reporter), this terrifying masterpiece garnered five Academy Awards, including Best Director and the coveted Best Picture. A psychopath known as Buffalo Bill is kidnapping and murdering young women across the midwest. Believing it takes one to know one, the FBI sends Agent Clarice Starling (Foster) to interview a demented prisoner who may provide psychological insight and clues to the killer's actions. The prisoner is a psychiatrist, Dr. Hannibal Lecter (Hopkins), a brilliant, murderous cannibal who will only help Starling if she will feed his morbid curiosity with details about her own complicated life. This twisted relationship forces Starling not only to confront her psychological demons, but leads her face to face with a demented heinous killer, an incarnation of evil so powerful, that she may not have the courage - or strength - to stop him! "Horrific, weirdly erotic and intimate....this terrifying thriller is an electrifying exercise in suspense" (Newsweek).

A classic of it's genre & the film that launched a 1000 ripoffs, many of which we're still suffering today! Hopkin's stiff, coiled containment vs Foster's blundering humanity is still compulsively watchable... Read more

This is a classic. Anthony Hopkins is a master of his craft and his portrayal of lecter is disturbing and utterly believable. Jodie Foster also puts in a strong performance.

Watch it.

Set a psychopath to catch a psychopath and its shivers down your backbone all the way. Suspense and horror at its very worst. Watch it if you dare!

It's extremely exciting and well made, without a doubt. But my gripe with it is that it was the start of the sick torture porn genre that's been inflicted on the movie going public ever since. So it... Read more

Can easily see why it's a classic today, possibly getting a bit dated though. Anthony Hopkins performs outstandingly in his role. A film you must see at least once just because of what it is, although I much preferred Red Dragon.

Anthony Hopkins as HL is EVIL, EVIL,EVIL (but somewhat 'understated' ). Absolutely loved it. Jodie Foster was pretty weak and her character very naive but an absolute classic piece of cinema. Watch it!!!
