A wonderful movie showcasing Ralph Fiennes at his best! Just loved it and had to watch it twice.
All over the place! Trots out a few too many cliches on its way, but some undeniably funny parts to leaven the plot. A much more ambitious undertaking than Moonrise Kingdom - somewhat in the same vein... Read more. Felt a little bit like a Terry Gilliam film at times, with all the painted backdrops.
For such a great cast, the movie was dull and boring. I fell asleep during it and tried to watch it again at another time, but just found it tedious. The switches between widescreen and 4:3 ratio, what was that all about?
Remarkable movie, oh the cinematography! Functions like a caper comedy wonderful lightness of touch with a serious bittersweet undertone. The GB Hotel is a made up place & represents something fine... Read more, cultivated, civilised, sophisticated & elegant. Overall demeanour is one of enthusiasm & excitement, hedonistic & oh so very opulent. Really is all about great characters & great people that you want to know who are on a journey of some kind & you are constantly being surprised. Part of the movie shot in the Golden era of the roaring Thirties/pre-War shot in square frame and the other part has been shot in wide screen to depict the 60's era which is so subtly done it only adds to the richness of this great viewing spectacle.
This is a cinematic marvel. So pretty to watch and I enjoyed the storyline! Recommended.
Not for us! Very boring. With a amazing cast like this, you expect something impressive. Managed 30min.
Looked good but we ended up fairly bored by this witless comedy. Waste of a great cast. The switches between widescreen format to retro 4:3 aspect ratio for most of the narrative were irritating.
A little too contrived and a little slow. Not for me, but everyone is different.
Meh. That's just about it. One or two funny bits, but the rest was slow, oddly filmed, akward script, and boring to watch. Acting was good by Voldermort (Ralph Fiennes), but not something I would want to watch more then once in my lifetime.
This film divided people. You either loved it or you hated it. If you like Wes Anderson you know what to expect - so I should have known it wouldn't be for me. I thought it was absolutely pathetic.
