Edward Wilson believed in America, and he would sacrifice everything he loved to protect it.

Edward Wilson, the only witness to his father's suicide and member of the Skull and Bones Society while a student at Yale, is a morally upright young man who values honour and discretion, qualities that help him to be recruited for a career in the newly founded Office of Strategic Services (OSS, the predecessor of the Central Intelligence Agency). While working there, his ideals gradually turn to suspicion influenced by the Cold War paranoia present within the office. Eventually, he becomes an influential veteran operative, while his distrust of everyone around him increases to no end. His dedication to his work does not come without a price though, leading him to sacrifice his ideals and eventually his family.

Ignore all the other bad reviews - this is a serious, deep-thinking movie with solid in-character performances from all the leads. It is short on shoot-em up action because it is about moral choices... Read more

very enjoyable movie and great actors who played the parts very well. A good watch with interesting situations.

Fictional but surprisingly based on real life characters. A very intense story which requires one to watch and listen closely, one may need to watch again to appreciate the underlying plot. Great acting with high powered cast and management.

Slow but moving insight into the sacrifices men made in the name of patriotism.

An unhurried and excellently directed film. This is pure film making skill. The writer may be getting a bit bitter in their old age though. What a shame it would be if the prize of mastery came at the cost of storyline richness.

Slow moving but not dull film about Cold War spy games. The cast is superb, with two exceptions. Robert De Niro allows himself an indulgent came, but perhaps he deserves it because of his efforts behind... Read more

I had a knot in my stomach the whole way through, good acting performances-not to cliched or over acted. Chilling, twists upon twists. One to leave your thinking.

Matt Damon good in the lead role. An enjoyable watch but bounced around timeline - bit hard to follow and wasn't any great mystery going on which was there to solve.

Great cast, great director, well acted, believable story, etc., but I am not a Matt Damon fan and it is hard to watch for 2.5 hours him being MD with his framed glasses and his subtle demeanor. This... Read more

Good story but waaaaay too long. I almost expected Golum to pop up looking for his "Precious" It was also kind of confusing starting in 1939, 1940, 1941, then skipping to 1961, then back to 1941..... What year is it now? I can't keep up.
