Bit of a spin on a number of fairy tales involving 2 brothers, its an interesting one to watch. You've got a bit of everything in this movie, the ginger bread man, little red riding hood, the big bad... Read more wolf, sleeping beauty, snow white.
You name the fairy tale story and its in this movie, has some great special effects but the stroy line was a not that great.
Mixed views about this, I expected it to be better. Interestingly weird slant on Grimms Fairy Tales. I would have been annoyed if I had paid to see this at the movies, but an ok watch.
From director Terry Gilliam (Time Bandits, The Adventures of Baron Munchausen) comes another visually stunning film with a great cast. Based around The Brothers Grimm (played by Matt Damon and Heath... Read more Ledger) who we all know as story tellers what this film speculates is that they were also old time Ghostbusters who specialised in ridding villages and towns of troublesome spirits and monsters. Of course the spirits and monsters are of their making - they are essentially rip off artists. When they are arrested by the occupying French forces for their crimes they are given the opportunity to redeem themselves by going to a local village where 10 young girls have disappeared. The initial thought is that another group of fraudsters is operating out of the town but quickly they realise that the enchantment of the forest and the missing girls are all too real. Well acted and with some very good effects this is ?fairy tale? with a difference. Intertwined are pieces of the stories we all know such as little red riding hood, Rapunzel as well as many others. No a bad watch especially if, like my partner, you like Heath Ledger!
Not a kids movie. I had no idea it would take such a different spin on what is known as the stories from the Brothers Grimm. Great characters in this movie and a darkness that was only realy eluded... Read more to when you were younger reading the Grimm stories.
If you don't mind history through fiction then this may be a great weekend DVD.
Childrens stories they are but the portrayal is like the Farrally brothers find Macarthiesm.
a bit difficult to get into the story at first. Not recommended for smal children. Heath Ledger not easy to understand in early scenes. Quite funny in parts and the special effects very interesting... Read more. An unusual approach to the fairy tales and was curious to see how Ledger and Damon worked together. The ending was very entertaining.
Gorgeous to look at, with broad panto-style acting and a frenetic pace, this riff on the Grimm's fairytales is entertaining enough. And compared to the dreary Narnia and Harry Potter movies, it's downright... Read more exuberant (albiet too scary and gruesome for the littlies). But for Terry Gilliam fans, there's only one word to describe his latest effort. Disappointing.
Gilliam is one of the most original and singular filmmakers working today, but this is Gilliam-lite, closer in tone to Shrek than Brazil. Apparently it was a troubled production, but dodgy CGI effects aside, the production design – especially the enchanted forest – is top notch. The biggest problem (apart from Matt Damon's accent) is a script that feels rushed and choppy, large sections of the movie and the characters feel truncated and underdeveloped.
What Grimm really lacks, however, is the emotional depth that anchors Gilliam's best work. Like Gilliam's best characters/proxies, the Brothers are dreamers using fantasy to make sense of the world. But there is none of the aching melancholy that made Brazil and 12 Monkeys modern classics. There are hints of Gilliam's gleefully anarchic sensibilities in Grimm, though, and at the very least, this one gets an extra star for answering that often asked question, what happens if you throw a a cute furry kitten into a giant blender.
I thought it was okay although getting to the story of the movie took awhile. The scenery/props were great. I thought combining all of the well known fairy tales was great. All in all was a good movie.
Comedy including different faery tales, lots of over acting, alright watch.
Liked it better when first came out, somethings don't age well lol
Plenty of talent here, bit of a waste since the story was mixed and did not keep my attention
This was pretty light hearted viewing, a bit of fun in places, a mix up of fairy tales but enjoyable watching, acting not too bad, enjoyed it. Filmed very dark though, not a lot of colour, added to the effects of the movie
