1994 M Contains Low Level Violence.

It will take you a million light-years from home

In this visually creative space adventure from the team that would go on to give the world INDEPENDENCE DAY and GODZILLA, a timid, glasses-wearing Egyptologist (James Spader) uncovers an ancient portal to another planet and is dispatched there forthwith--along with blundering, clodfooted government troops (led by Kurt Russell). The downtrodden populace they encounter, ruled by godlike, androgynous King Ra (Jaye Davidson, in his first role after becoming a star in THE CRYING GAME), must be led to literacy and freedom; Ra must be defeated; the intellectual must find his machismo; our boys must return to Earth.

Brilliant release of the Stargate movie with a lot of new scenes that helped movie make sense. Enjoyed a lot compared to original

The original Stargate. Amazing Sci fi. Big Budget. Worth watching. I particularly enjoyed the attached segment on the making of the production.

Great SF idea and some impressive visuals but the film gets sidetracked - maybe to give Kurt R something to do.

A good movie and intro for the eventual series (even though that wasn't the intention). However, I found the series to be more interesting and better acted than this blockbuster! Still a good watch though.

Not bad for American sci-fi I guess. Pretty good premise, but typically without the panache of its British cousins.

Not exactly high quality Sci Fi. OK but two hours long - acting was poor to reasonable and the baddie was overly camp - rainy afternoon stuff.
