It's heavy going at times, but the story is gripping and Meryl Streep pulls of the Polish-English accents flawlessly. It's an excellent, very moving film, but not an easy watch, not just for the story... Read more, but for the full on performance by Kevin Kline. But if you're looking for something light for a Sat night-choose something else.
Sophie is the survivor of Nazi concentration camps, who has found a reason to live in Nathan, a sparkling if unsteady American Jew obsessed with the Holocaust. They befriend Stingo, the movie's narrator, a young American writer new to New York City. But the happiness of Sophie and Nathan is endangered by her ghosts and his obsessions.
