...A Comedy About the Greatest Love Story Almost Never Told...

Shakespeare In Love is a romantic comedy for the 1990's set in the 1590's, telling the witty, sexy story behind the creation of the greatest love story of them all - Romeo and Juliet. Young Will Shakespeare is the up and coming playwright of the time, but has been disastrously struck by the bane of the writer's life - writer's block. What Will needs is a muse - and she appears in the form of the beautiful (and betrothed) Lady Viola. The path of true love doesn't run smooth for will, however - Viola is engaged to be married to the insufferable Lord Wessex (Colin Firth) at the command of Queen Elizabeth (Judi Dench). The joys and tragedy of his own life find their way onto the page in a moving, witty and spellbinding tale. SHAKESPEARE IN LOVE is a brilliantly funny, warm and fast moving romance.

With better leads this could have succeeded. But the smug, talentless Paltrow & dorky Fiennes make my skin crawl & I just wanted to throw something at the screen after half an hour. Exhibit 1- the cover... Read more

TThere are two stories working together in this movie, smoothly interwoven throughout. One is about Shakespeare falling in love with a woman from high society, Viola De Lesseps (Gwyneth Paltrow). The... Read more

Loved it when it first came out and it was just as good this time around, if not better! The real reason for getting it out was for my 13 year old daughter to watch it as she has started to read Shakespeare... Read more

A wonderful tale of Shakespeare's genius which is funny and a feast for the eyes, with great script writing, and an awesome cast. The characters created by some extremely well known actors, are at times... Read more

Terrific, original, and fresh. It's also extremely witty and inventive and the two leads are brilliantly dopey. But it does come with a warning, Geoffrey Rush is in it. But putting Geoff aside, it's... Read more

10/10 for costumes. The script is quite witty but the screenplay weakens towards the end. Affleck was probably cast for commercial reasons and looks out of place and depth among a dream supporting cast... Read more
