One of those movies that you can watch over and over and never get bored with it. Great acting by Kidman and McGregor infact by everyone. Great choice of songs. Just loved it.
This movie is a triumph! A kaleidescopic and occasionally chaotic homage to love, colour, tragedy, obsession, the popular song and did I mention love? Ewan MacGregor and Nicole Kidman sing their butts... Read more off in an unexpected and more than competent way, and manage to create sympathetic characters in amongst the chaos at the bohemian and amoral Moulin Rouge. I'm not a fan of musicals usually but this worked so well, with a number of modern songs woven in. Jim Broadbent epitomises the gaudy and harsh reality underlying all the fun.
2 stars for art direction & costume but that is IT! Kidman horribly miscast as someone with a pulse but hey she does TB pretty well. So uneven you feel nauseous by half time. Supporting cast rate a mention but the whole effort is doomed.
I enjoyed watching this movie. Lots of action some very good musical numbers. However it did jump around quite a lot and I found this confusing.
Baz Luhrman's 'take' on the Moulin Rouge seeks to impress the way a kaleidoscope impresses - it's a screenful of constantly changing pattern and colour that never settles long enough for you to appreciate... Read more what's going on. Perhaps it's just as well, therefore, that the plot is about as flimsy as they come; minimal development with an ending that's obvious soon after the start. The inclusion of musical borrowings from the Beatles, Madonna and other recent and current celebrities to carry the extravaganza along was so incongruous as to be an insult to the real Red Windmill. Nicole Kidman was great to look at, though.
I love good musicals, and I really like Nicole Kidman and Ewan McGregor in pretty much everything, but I disliked this hysterical video clip mess with a passion.
Beautiful, witty, lavish, human, touching, funny and heart-breaking, and that's just scene 1. If you only watch one musical movie in your lifetime, make it this one.
genius acting by Nicole Kidman and train spotting guy.
A little bit musically confusing. I don't know where madonna and elton john fit into the 1899 music scene?
McGregor's singing is forced but there is movement aplenty throughout the film. Jim Broadbent looks after the acting and the comedy and is always worth a star.
Kidman was superb! Loved the modern music in an old classic - gave it an interesting and entertaining twist. Great movie
