Like Joans, I found it seriously, NOT FUNNY. I was tempted to stop it after seeing the main characters and the major difference from the original cast, especially Zaphod Beeblebrox. But since I bought... Read more the DVD, I watched it through, to the end. The only thing I liked about the movie, apart from the end, was the voice over. He was very similar to the original voice. I'm surprised that Douglas Adams, actually OK'ed the movie. One to avoid if you are a SciFi fan, especially British SciFi fan.
What a total load of rubbish, graphicly inferior to the origional series, the story line had been altered out of proportion, things that never happened were included, the acting was tripe.
Douglas... Read more Adams would be turning in his grave at the mere thought that someone might have destroyed his wonderfull work in this way, youd rather chew your own leg off than watch it.
A real good funny science fiction, a good pick for a light hearted funny mood. The story line and the concept is quite interesting for a science fiction lover. hats off to Adam douglas.
I didn't think this was going to be fantastic - but WOW - it was seriously boring! It has none of the charm or wit from the original series. Could only watch 3/4's of it before giving up altogether.
An absolute travesty. Complete butchery of nearly everything that makes HHGTTG great. Not only is the storyline pitifully executed but in the day of computer special effects I found Zaphods SFX to be... Read more worse than the original TV series. As were the Guide descriptions.
And don't start me on how they destroyed Marvin.
Absolute rubbish. Rent the TV series instead.
Two words - bloody awful. Is almost an insult to the original series, and a very surreal experience watching it. Ford is a token black guy, and I am NOT being racist - they just put him in there as... Read more they did not want an all-white cast from fear of the movie being called racist. Zaphod Beeblebrox is just plain embarrassing, and as with all re-makes aimed at the American market, they have over-acted and over-scripted the "Relationship" between Arthur and Trillion(a relationship which did not even exist in the series), and that too is corny and not in keeping with the original concept. Kinda makes you wonder if you are watching a movie based on the series, as there are parts from the series, and other parts that are total diversions from the series plot. Each to their own, I suppose, but I hated this, and would not rent it again.
The vinyl version of the leather couch ... I enjoyed it being a devotee to the original and recently watched the whole original series and enjoyed the paths and irony of the real dialogue - its been... Read more reissued for the current generation and in that vacuum packing and glossy laminating has lost a little of the true fun of the story.
Crap crap and more crap. Had to turn it off before it ended we thought it was so slow and stupid.
Absolute rubbish, jokes were dull and lame. Along with this decidely average special effects and acting on the same level as 'days of our lives'. Avoid at all costs.
The only part of the review that persuaded me to try this was the word "insane." Gave up after about 10 minutes. A waste of plastic and time.
