An incredible comedy that had me glued to it throughout. Also made a strong point... In black and white which may put some off, but I would still highly recommend it to all.
I just love this movie, it should have been a warning some time ago as to the bush admin of today - go dr strangelove
Still a classic full of quotes that have entered the idiom, only the names and the faces have changed: spot George Bush forty years after the movie was made.
THE FUNNIEST MOVIE EVER MADE! Forget those useless, ugly supposed "comedies" that Hollywood are churning out like butter, stick to the sixties, stick to KUBRICK!!! This is hilarious, especially George... Read more C. Scott, whose acting performance is even more admirable with repeat viewings. And of course, Peter Sellers, whose portrayal of three characters is excellent and well-done. Sterling Hayden is also crackup as the insane Gen. Ripper, obsessed with bodily fluids and water fluoridation. Classic scenes such as "Hello, Dimitri?", "Where's Major Kong?" "You're gonna have to answer to the Coca-Cola company" and "This is the War Room!" all assist in making this the greatest black comedy of all time.
At the height of the cold war, a US air force general completely loses the plot and dispatches a mission to make a preemptive nuclear strike on Russia, sending bombers beyond their failsafe point. ... Read more Brilliant. Director Kubrick at his best. Peter Sellers likewise in each of the three roles he plays. Hilarious and scary at the same time and a must see for fans of satire, Sellers, Kubrick, and George C Scott. Kubrick's meticulous preparation resulted in US Air Force personnel turning white when they saw how realistically he recreated the interior of a (B-29?) bomber. A film to watch more than once.
Loved it.....the movie is about the fleet of B52 bomber America kept in the air 24 hours a day, seven days a week. well, one of them goes awol in some way and then the Americans and Russians get all... Read more worked up. actually very funny at times also. rent it......rent it.....
This is a fantastic movie. I'm sure that I'll be quoting from it for a long time to come. Images from this movie have become fairly iconic, riding the bomb and the War Room.
Nuclear War as... Read more a comedy actually works well and the jokes are still fresh today, 40 years later. See if you can spot all the roles played by Peter Sellers.
It truly is a classic...understated humour and Peter Sellers' extraordinary abilities. My kids (7, 10 and 12) really "got it" once they got over the B & W format. Best line? "Gentlemen!!!! You can't FIGHT in HERE!!!! This is the WAR ROOM!"
Like many Kubrick efforts, Dr Stranglove is regarded as a screen classic and must have been unnerving in its day. From our perspective today it is amusing and intentionally silly with mad generals and... Read more an out of control base commander. Georce C. Scott is excellent as the commie-hating general who proposes first strike annihilation at various times. Peter Sellers acts in several roles and is convincing at each turn - his President character was authorative and we could almost cheerfully swap him for George W. Eerie black and white cinematography and crisp editing are hallmarks of a master director and the crazed base commander Jack D. Ripper was delightfully manic. I am a huge Kubrick fan, but compared to Full Metal Jacket and Paths of Glory, I could not suspend belief enough or connect with the plot to rate it higher.
One of the greatest movies of all time. Defines the genre of dark comedy, an incredible anti-nuclear weapons film, and some great performances. A must-see.
