Having watched this movie at the Cinemas, I felt obliged to make a comment to all the people out there that browse this movie. It is excellent.
A hilarious, ridiculous, moving and truly Kiwi film... Read more, Boy will not disappoint anyone. If you've eaten crayfish, or had a pet farm animal, or even just dug holes in the backyard for no reason, you have to see this film.
So what are you waiting for egg?
I thought this movie was gonna be really funny. It did have funny parts in it but it was more once were warriors style, although it was a lot less graphic etc but was along the same lines I felt. It... Read more was an absolutly brilliant movie however, great story, very realistic, well put together and I would highly recommed it to EVERYONE.
Must-see Kiwi film making - beautifully shot, brilliantly acted (though I actually found Waititi a bit OTT), perfectly paced, and tells a human story with the right mix of humour and 'drama'. I guess... Read more some people might find it tragic, but this just is how some people in NZ lived - and still live. I personally appreciated the way these lives were depicted without there being some big 'message'. (And personally, I think being stuck in a miners cottage in Ponsonby that you paid $750K for with no back yard and 10cms away from the neighbours on either side is a bit tragic too.)
Wonderfully understated humour with the right amount of pathos.
Well worth the effort to set some time aside to watch.
Humorous and good-mood movie. Child actors up to their task. 80's settings and atmospheres brought out brilliantly. Wonderful bonus before the end credits.
OK however .... a sad look at the bleak life available in some parts of the country, little education and nearly zero prospects without moving. Acting and filming very well done.
Great acting and well made film but this is definitely not a comedy. A depressing satire of the difficulties involved in surviving parents and poverty.
Enjioyable KIwi Movie , lived up to expectationsj BOy was a grat litttle actor, I am sure we will see more of him. Not sure that this iportrays maori as we would like could be typical of some burt... Read more n o5t all.
Great funn andf a message to be learned
Definitely watch this movie. It's excellent. But take my warning; don't watch it more than once. Hilarious and well-put together, I loved it the first time around. The second time I was bored by it... Read more; its the kind of movie you only need to see once; you don't pick up anything new the second time.
I'm actually slightly dissapointed with 'Boy'. A family comedy? Sure I laughed a few times, but its prob closer to a tragedy in most aspects. If your just looking for some laughs and not a drama to... Read more go with it, perhaps 'Boy' isn't the best choice...
Its still good though, just not the cult classic media painted it to be.
