The Bolshoi: symbol of Russia, a national treasure and one of the most famous ballet institutions in the world. Recently, however, the theatre has been in the headlines for all the wrong reasons. Intrigue, personal attacks, accusations of corruption and management changes have created lurid headlines. Most recently, a shocking scandal in 2013 saw Bolshoi artistic director Sergei Filin targeted in an acid attack perpetrated by former principal dancer, Pavel Dmitrichenko. Now, for the first time, as Filin returns to work and Dmitrichenko appeals his sentence, the theatre directors have allowed outsiders into the Bolshoi to document the backstage process and offer a glimpse into this real-life Black Swan.
