Confusing, upsetting and compelling. The pieces only come together in the end
movie containing three different stories interwoven, ranging from illegal dog fighting to super models to assassins. Start of the movie seems very violent and bloodthirsty with the dog fighting but... Read more is filmed in such a way that there is no actual dogfighting seen , it is all sound effect and viewer imagination. The way the stories are linked is very clever and the way the stories time line jumps back and forth keeps the viewer engaged. A very edgy and gripping movie.
The movie was interesting at first but then I started to get bored after a constant moan of the ex-model for her Richie-dog. I was dead bored when it reached the old-man story. I believe the whole movie... Read more could be made shorter without losing the message it tries to say that Love's a Bitch! as the English title has suggested. Surely some people could see the point of similarity between this movie and "Crash"?
A brilliant movie set in Mexico from the director of 21 Grams. Amores Perros follows the complicated and tragic stories of three main characters: a young Mexican who fights his dog to make some quick... Read more cash, a model at the height of her career and an ex vigilante come derelect. Their lives intersect due to a series of events and their course ultimately changes because of this. It's main theme being love and loss. If you liked 21 Grams or City of God you should like this.
This is a classic! A collection of short stories interwoven so that events and
circumstances overlap. Similar in style to Pulp Fiction but with more attention to
characterisation. I sat... Read more through the two and a bit hours and was disappointed when it ended. Don't be put off by the doggy topic that weaves all the stories together. The dog fight scenes are handled well and it is obvious that no animals were harmed during production, just a lot of tomato sauce in places! I urge anyone who likes characterisation, inventive cinematography, excellent editing and something a little different to watch this.
An amazing interweaving of charcters and plot. Excellent but not one for the wife.
Excellent film with superb direction, writing and acting. Similair in structure to Pulp Fiction but apart from that it is a highly original piece with scenes that are rare to see in films.
This movie is like a Mexican version of Once for Warriors - it attacks your senses from the first scene and has a great story line.
Rather brutal, quite indicative of a country (and indeed maybe entire continent ) which has lost the plot, and this was back in 2002 before the proverbials have really hit the fan!
The story was interesting and I enjoyed all the connections. You certainly don't feel great about relationships after watching this movie - Love is a Bitch!
