It's great to look at, but it doesn't seem to know if it's a romance or a serious drama. Because dramatically, it's not nail biting enough to be convincing. It's entertaining enough, but it should have been much more exciting to pull you into the story.
The set designs and wardrobe are good but the screenplay doesn't amount to much. I'm not sure why someone of the quality of Marion Cotillard is required for a walk in the park like this.
Decent watch, and loved the spy aspects and costumes. Got a bit predictable at the end, but still worth a watch
In short, dreadful. Brad Pitt, now in his 50's, looks like a like a kind of waxworks figurine, all shiny and wooden, with acting to match unfortunately (nothing new there). The French woman (whatever... Read more her name) was much better but not sufficiently so to save this film. The Germans, as one might imagine, are portrayed as maniacal idiots. The whole crap-pile was just absurdly improbable from start to finish. If you see this movie coming; run!
The film's premise sounded great, and it had a promising start. Believable scenes and credible lead characters which were built up as very clever agents. Which leaves you wondering did someone else... Read more write the latter half of the film? which contained some highly improbable scenarios, and required us to believe the main characters had somehow misplaced their former intelligence.
Beautiful looking period piece which could have been better had there been more a reason to care for the characters. Still not a bad watch but I doubt it will be remembered.
