1985 M Contains violence.

Based on E.M. Forster's brilliant social comedy set in 1907, A ROOM WITH A VIEW is the story of well-brought up English girl Lucy Honeychurch (Helena Bonham Carter) and her first visit to Italy. Chaperoned by an older cousin, prim spinster Charlotte (Maggie Smith), Lucy meets and falls in love with the free-thinking, self-educated George Emerson (Julian Sands). However he is not considered to be quite "nice" enough by their fellow English guests. Back in England, encouraged by her mother and younger brother Freddy (Rupert Graves), Lucy accepts the hand in marriage of the cultured, correct, opinionated Cecil Vyse (Daniel Day-Lewis). But Lucy's visit to Italy has changed her life forever. As fate takes a hand Lucy will be re-united with her one true love and return to Florence - and A ROOM WITH A VIEW.

Wonderful movie with great settings in Florence and a delightful English countryside. Quality acting from Helena Bonham Carter as Lucy aided by some cameo appearances by Judi Dench and Maggie Smith round it off nicely.

An almost perfect film. Stunning to look at, with a terrific witty screenplay, and a cast of the best British actors, it's one of those gorgeous films that can be watched and re-watched again and again... Read more

Re-visited this movie as a followup to a recent visit to Florence, and that was worthwhile. But what surprised me (again) was that this was a really good movie with such a good cast of British actors... Read more
