The future is history.

A lone time traveler from the year 2035 must solve a riddle that may save his people... but it may also take him to the brink of madness. Bruce Willis, Madeleine Stowe and Brad Pitt star in this brilliant sci-fi masterpiece from Terry Gilliam, the acclaimed director of The Fisher King. After the world's population is devastated by a killer virus, survivors must live in dank underground communities. Cole (Willis) "volunteers" to travel into the past to obtain a pure virus sample, thereby helping scientists develop a cure. Along the way, he crosses paths with a beautiful psychiatrist (Stowe) and a one-card-short-of-a-full-deck mental patient (Pitt). But the race is on, as Cole searches for The Army of the 12 Monkeys, a radical group linked to the deadly disease. With unforgettable performances and imaginative special effects, 12 Monkeys is a modern-day classic laced with Gilliam's trademark wit and dazzling visual style.

Excellent time-travel paradox story which will keep you guessing till the end. And the musical score is fantastic!

Interesting...Brad Pitt is not his usual matinee idol self in this one but is still worth watching. The patient/doctor thing goes on a bit but the viris/time travel idea that dominates the story kind of overrides these hiccups.

An excellent film with a really complex plot to work out and follow. In the genre of 1984. A typical Terry Gillam movie. Good to see Brad Pitt acting in a role different from most he does.

The level of madness, both perceived and real, gave this a gritty realism that was more terrifying than the threat of the virus. The TV series is very different, but I was not at all disappointed by the film.

Not a great science fiction film, the basic idea was OK but the portrayal was unnecessarily unpleasant, which for me really detracted from the film.

I really like Terry Gilliam's films. He so obviously loves making them and I think he does a lot with very little money. As everyone says, Brad Pitt's performance is good: but Bruce Willis is just an... Read more
